Clive Longbottom, Contributing Analyst

Clive is a technology industry analyst covering a range of different areas, focusing on the business impact and promise of IT. Still writing a little – but no longer travelling or attending vendor bashes.

He trained as a chemical engineer, worked on anti-cancer drugs, car catalysts and fuel cells before moving in to IT. Worked on many office automation projects, as well as COSHH, document management and knowledge management projects.

Clive became a consultant and then an IT industry analyst through META Group in the US (now part of Gartner). Then he left and set up Quocirca as a group of like-minded analysts who dig into what IT means to a business – not just whether it is ‘clever’​ and a topic of the moment.

Clive deals well with C-level execs and can discuss many areas of business and how IT can be utilised to help meet changes in business processes and market dynamics.

James McKay, Associate Research Partner

James McKay, based in London / UK, is Quocirca’s associate research partner, working on projects relating to technological innovation, digital disruption, and business model transformation.

James has over 12-years’ experience as an independent research consultant, helping drive firms’ executive decision-making through the design and implementation of complex data-driven analysis assignments.

As principal and founder of McKay Research, he is involved in providing professional strategic consulting services both to the world’s leading market intelligence companies as well as a portfolio of private clients. James has extensive expertise across a diverse range of industries, including insurance, investment, commodities, pharmaceuticals, FMCG, and packaging.

On a personal level, James’s experience in varied but interconnected sectors makes him at home with the inherent complexities and challenges facing print, and he is passionate about contributing to a deeper understanding of the ongoing digital transformation of the industry.

Bob Tarzey, Contributing Analyst

Bob Tarzey worked as an analyst at Quocirca from Oct 2002 to Mar 2018 and is now working freelance. His main area of coverage is the fast-changing area of IT security and compliance. He also covers operational intelligence, systems management, on-demand services and route-to-market for IT vendors. Bob has been the lead analyst on numerous primary research projects in these areas, including many looking at the potential and actual cost to organisations of cyber-threats and the benefits of investing in defences. He continues to write analysis for various industry publications and acts as judge for industry awards.

Her print industry expertise stems from more than a decade in-house at Kyocera Document Solutions where she helped to build the company’s brand as an innovator in environmentally responsible business.
