Clive Longbottom, Contributing Analyst

Clive is a technology industry analyst covering a range of different areas, focusing on the business impact and promise of IT. Still writing a little – but no longer travelling or attending vendor bashes.

He trained as a chemical engineer, worked on anti-cancer drugs, car catalysts and fuel cells before moving in to IT. Worked on many office automation projects, as well as COSHH, document management and knowledge management projects.

Clive became a consultant and then an IT industry analyst through META Group in the US (now part of Gartner). Then he left and set up Quocirca as a group of like-minded analysts who dig into what IT means to a business – not just whether it is ‘clever’​ and a topic of the moment.

Clive deals well with C-level execs and can discuss many areas of business and how IT can be utilised to help meet changes in business processes and market dynamics.

Isabel Hopkins, Contributing Analyst

Isabel is a market research professional, who has worked across a range of industries and using a blend of methodologies during her twenty-year career. She was a Partner and Research Director at Illuminas LLP until 2019, where she worked primarily in complex sectors such as technology, finance and utlities for clients such as EE, BT, Royal Mail, Goldman Sachs and EDF Energy.

She now specialises in looking at how the digital and analogue worlds are converging and helping clients optimise their proposition in the context of competing demands, covering brand, pricing, sustainability, the economy and workforce dynamics. She has worked with Quocirca since 2021, supporting projects including The Future of Print, Zero Trust and Sustainability studies.

Outside of work she is dedicated to spending time by the sea in all seasons and participating in her local community in East London, especially in terms of social inclusion projects and supporting children living in poverty.

John Simcox, Contributing Analyst

John has worked as a consultant in the technology industry analyst sector for over 30 years, initially with Romtec – where he first worked with Louella – followed by stints at Gartner, Ovum, Current Analysis, PAC and IDC. 

His focus has been on helping IT and telecommunications vendors to better understand the markets they wish to operate in and how best to exploit those markets at both strategic and tactical level.

John has extensive experience in designing, managing and analysing large market research studies. He is also very experienced in conducting executive interviews and moderating focus groups.

Prior to joining Romtec, John worked for a systems integrator, initially in application development before moving into sales and marketing.

Helen Hopper, Media Relations

Helen is a media relations and communications consultant with broad experience across the business, technology and education sectors. Her print industry expertise stems from more than a decade in-house at Kyocera Document Solutions where she helped to build the company’s brand as an innovator in environmentally responsible business. Helen communicates complex research and business stories through clear copywriting that cuts to the heart of the issue to engage and inform audiences.

Michael Diamond, Contributing Analyst

Michael is an industry analyst and foresight professional with over 25 years of experience in market research and business-to-business (B2B) markets. His coverage areas include cybersecurity, intelligent devices, data center infrastructure, knowledge management, collaboration, and the SMB market.

Michael has worked for The Futurum Group covering intelligent devices, cybersecurity, The IT supply chain, collaboration, ProAV, and the business-to-business market. Prior to that, Michael worked for The NPD Group (now Circana) as the sole industry analyst covering the B2B/SMB market, enterprise networking, cybersecurity, data center infrastructure (e.g., enterprise storage, x86 servers, etc.), PCs, ProAV, and document imaging.
