Magnetic disk-based storage cannot compete with flash when it comes to performance.
The future for storage
Spinning magentic disk storage is reaching the end of its life as a means of supporting storage workloads within organisations. With the performance of flash-based storage being orders of magnitude greater than magentic disk, and with price per unit of real storage being comparable, the use of magnetic disk has now to be entered a 'long tail' of replacement. Why should organisations look to flash arrays - and when?
